Picture Day
Picture Day is coming up on Tuesday 9/16.  See details below. Did you know that a portion of the proceeds of every order placed on or before Picture Day are returned to Merriam to support fundraising efforts? Just last year, we raised over $600 for Merriam via school pictures!

Back to School Night
Mark your calendars. Back to School Night is on Wednesday, Sept 24th, at 6:30pm.

Kelley's Corner and Walkers

We understand that crosswalks at Kelley’s Corner may not yet be available.  If your child is a walker, please consider student safety when allowing children to be in that area unsupervised.  The Acton police are also aware of the situation. Paving is continuing and is scheduled to take place in front of our schools next week. Please expect potential traffic disruptions. We thank you for your patience and cooperation with this important project.

Student Collection Cabinet

One way to highlight our community spirit at Merriam is the Student Collection Cabinet in the lobby. This display case has three shelves, it is about 4’ long x 2’ wide, and each shelf is about 12” high; students can display their collections on one shelf for two weeks. Some past collections have included:
·  Lego Creations
·  Baseball, Pokemon, Hockey, Sports Cards
·  Favorite Book Series
·  Sea Shells, Shark Teeth
·  Rocks, Gems, Crystals
·  Squishmallows, Stuffed Friends & Lovies
·  Horse, Dinosaur, Animal Figurines
·  Crazy Socks, Hats
·  LOL Dolls, Hatchimals, Barbies
·  Handmade Clay Creations, Artwork, Drawings
·  The possibilities are endless as long as they are school appropriate!

How does it work? There are “sign-up slips” on top of the cabinet that children fill out and give to the office (the office can help them fill out a slip if they need it). Kathleen in the office keeps track of the slips in the order they are received and when it is a student’s turn to display their collection, Kathleen contacts the parents/guardians to confirm it is okay and coordinate the collection to be brought into school.

Perhaps you will talk about it with your child(ren) and the slips for displays will start piling up in the office!

Dog Therapy Program at Merriam 🐾

Dog Therapy has returned to Merriam this year! This program was a huge success last year, bringing joy, comfort, and connection to our students, staff, and families!

As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting students' social-emotional well-being, we will be welcoming visits from licensed and registered therapy dogs. These calm, gentle, and well-trained dogs will be scheduled to visit classrooms, offering a unique way to promote joy, reduce stress, and support a positive school environment.

Each K–6 classroom will have the chance to meet and spend time with one of our therapy dogs. Our goal is to ensure that every student has the opportunity to participate in this special experience.

We recognize that some families may prefer their child not participate in dog therapy visits due to allergies, discomfort around dogs, or personal reasons. Families will be notified by their classroom teacher about their scheduled classroom visit and provided an Opt Out Form.  All students will have the opportunity to visit with a therapy dog unless their parent opts out their child.

We’re truly looking forward to this exciting and heartwarming program, and we can’t wait to see the smiles it brings!
